Nice BETA, but what’s in for me?
Valid question!
Let’s look at this from various angles:
– Your Karma count: this will go rapidly up, because we appreciate it a lot!
– Exclusive “OG” NFT Badges: we created 2 Beta test challenges to earn strictly limited Beta & Community OG badges, which we will mint into your wallet for free after launching Season 1 of BCO.
– tba NFT & Token rewards: helping to test our inital prototypes may make you eligible for more Token and/ or NFT rewards. We need to keep this a little stealth atm since we finalise the legal framework (more on this under “Wen Token” below on this same page)
But we are confident, testers and players should not be underwhelmed once we kick this off.
I face issues, crashes etc.
Yes, this is what in general, a BETA is about 😉
But in this stage of development, the initial scope is even a little different:
Season 1 of Battle Cards will start with 8 Character classes, each with its own deck.
The decks at this stage are fully scoped out manually and “just” need to be brought to code.
However, we decided to for the prototype to just present to very opposite characters (Berserker & Rogue) and scope the very first Beta as follows:
Main scope
– can we reliably create access scenarios, like identify player’s eligibility for accessing the game, and with which characters they play?
– can we record & report on started matches, closed matches (won/lost), and other statistics, and in a useful way record & read them (performance & cost efficiently) to/ from Radix DLT?
– can we run this kind of game, which is of course not AAA+ studio quality, but certainly more sophisticated than an average browser game, in a browser (preferred) or rather as desktop App (which would bring its own challenges in regards to eg Radix Connect)?
So basically, if you can run the game, start it and play some matches, and we get the game data out of it, this technical Beta is a success already!
Of course, game-wise, we’d love to learn if generally this kind of game (a TCG combined with a round based strategy game) is appreciated in a Web3 environment? We ourselves believe, of course, it’s a no brainer match from heaven 😉
Berserker always wins, Rogue crashes!
Rogue crashes:
Indeed, we face some major issues with the Rogue’s card deck when it’s played by a human; fortunately we are still in Beta 😉
We are currently checking if we shall fix the Rogue’s deck, or rather build it from scratch, we will update you on this status.
Right now it’s still appreciated if you play Rogue & report when it crashes/ freezes (eg repeatedly on the same card(s)? Please let us know! Currently “Strongest Longbow” is a known “rogue” (haha) card for example), but be prepared for some frustration with the Rogue character 😉
Berserker always wins:
BCO is intended to of course become a PvP multiplayer game, so you can battle your friends and competitors. For the beta, we implemented a very basic bot to be your opponent, and to be fair it is not optimized for the unique abilities of Rogue, to basically try to keep distance from your opponent, use traps & distance weapons etc.
The bot rather tries to predict where the player is moving to, and then within parameters randomises attacks. This in turn, is a lot like rather a direct attack character like Berserker would act, and this is why in this PvC it is rather hard to lose against the “weaker” opponent which tries to apply a simple “brute force” strategy against your much stronger and resilient Berserker.
In PvP this will look solely different, and Rogue is a very sneaky & powerful character, this we can assure 😉
btw: While looking to make BCO mainly PvP, we still like the feedback that players would love to have a computer opponent to train and try strategies, so we have noted that and will later look to also provide more complex and sophisitcated Bot opponents, which will factor in a character’s unique abilities and then make winning a lot more challenging.
WTH just happened, what are these cards actually doing?
As stated above, the current decks are very preliminiary and (on the technical side) implemented very basically.
Along the journey to Season 1, we are looking to make it visually a lot clearer and easier to understand what your card’s effects are and what the opponent just played, so don’t worry about this right now in this technical stage of the Beta.
Along this we will also release for all 8 decks a detailed preview of capabilities of each card, so you will be able to understand and apply your deck (and with coming seasons, recombine and build your custom character class decks!) in your preferred way.
Wen buy NFT?
Great question!
We will thoon launch a Character Deck Presale (along with releasing the Character class and deck specifics), mark the June/ July time frame in your calendar.
Alongside this, you can already support Battle Cards by buying RadiPux NFT (an early-in-Radix test run based on Karl, the grumpy family pug), which will unlock you VIP status within the BCO universe (early access, ongoing discounts, VIP rewards on staking etc etc), or you may stake you $XRD on our Battle Cards Online Validator. We recently celebrated entering the Top100 of validators, but look to strengthen our position somewhere in the middle field, so keep on staking, and look forward to exclusive rewards we will announce thoon!
Wen Token?
Well, to put an end to the speculation: Yes, there will be a dedicated Token to drive the BCO ecosystem. And yes, there will be even 2, and they will be awesome, especially in tandem!
Why not more information & wild promises right now?
Unlike many (no criticism) “crypto wild west” projects, we consider minting and supplying a Token as an impactful and legally relevant action. Technically, it’s done in a few minutes, but its legal implications for a company or an individual can be critical if done in the wrong setting.
And let’s face it: regulation, KYC/KYB, compliance etc will be key to mass adoption, as much as we like or don’t like it. We, for us, looked at the whole topic and since we want to treat this hobbyist but ambitious project like a real business from the beginning, are aiming at incorporating soon.
So to avoid any potential conflict between alleged promises made before, we at this stage keep this part rather under wraps, make our notes and records, and promise that once legal and organisational setup is confirmed, value already provided actions, help and feedback coming from the community 😉
Goal of course is to from then on act “right of the ledger” and to phase out the manual recording and distribution.
